Our incredible Senior New Homes Consultant, Steve Humski, has been helping our clients express themselves for four years now. In honour of his Express Living Homes anniversary (and him just being an all-round champion), we sat down with Steve to find out a little more about the man, the myth, the legend! We love Steve, and we reckon you will too.
What’s unique about you?
I have a unique ability to scare fish away. Every time I go fishing everyone else seems to catch but me! ☹ I love kids; I have two of my own as well as coaching Auskick. I just enjoy communicating with people on my level 😉
One of my greatest personal achievements was walking the Kokoda Track when I was 43. One really gets to know oneself when failure is not an option.
Why Express? Why do you enjoy working here?
I love the small and talented group of people we work with here at Express. With a smaller group there is more intimacy and desire to work together (and succeed) for our clients.
What are your specialities – what are you good at?
I have been in the building industry since I was 17 (30 years!) of which I have been consulting for 20. I particularly love problem solving design and budget restrictions, and tend to specialize in odd shaped blocks, rear strata properties, and demolition/builds. I also love dealing with first homeowners, and take great pride seeing a first homeowner doing something great for themselves. It’s so important to me to make your experience as seamless and honest as possible.
Outside of work, I am a pretty handy cook, Auskick footy coach, and love fishing and playing guitar with my daughter, who is far more talented than me in every way imaginable!
What’s your favourite part of the home + why?
Definitely the kitchen, as it’s all about creating and sharing with others. When I’m in the kitchen, I am in the zone! My next home will have a scullery purely to store the dirty dishes, unused appliances etc., so that the kitchen will at least appear clean and clutter-free! Out of sight, out of mind if you have a door on a scullery 😊
Less exciting, but just as important are the storage spaces around the home. (You might be sensing a theme here: out of sight, out of mind.)
How would you describe your own unique style, and what is it?
My personal style is bogan chic! I’m not one for showboating, rather simple and practical, honest and down to earth. My actions always speak louder than my words. That’s why our Eco Retreat style resonates with me so much; it’s earth, natural, and calm.
Happy Fourth Anniversary, Steve! We want to spend many more years with you, helping people build rad homes with perfect style. We’re also looking forward to you completing your personal goal for this year; learning Sultans of Swing on guitar – can’t wait to hear it!
