Imagine if you were a FIFO worker and left your new home site as the slab was poured. Only to return back from your swing and BOOM new home! Well, that’s pretty much exactly what happened to our lovely client, Raine!
Meet Raine, a FIFO worker that has successfully overseen the build of her Brownstones Two Storey Home in Piara Waters, south of Perth. The low maintenance, ready to move in to design styles and the faster build time influenced Raine’s decision to build a Brownstones with Express as it suited her two week on, one week off roster –The perfect lock and leave option for busy FIFO workers.
We spent some time with Raine in her new home to hear more about her building experience with us at Express!
1. What was the most challenging aspect of your build?
It was probably just me working away and needing to meet certain appointments and deadlines but my builder was really convenient and able to work around the times when I was home.
2. Which part of the build have you most enjoyed?
This was the advantage of being two weeks on and one week off, every time I returned to site something had changed and not just small things either. The most memorable time I remember was leaving and the site was still just sand but when I returned I had the pad, frame and roof all in place so it was pretty exciting to come back to.
3. Do you have any pieces of advice for other people looking to build their home?
Just relax and don’t rush.
I was actually looking at buying established but when I came across Brownstones I just knew it was right for me because it felt right. If you’re going to build, look around and find the building company that’s going to suit you because they will make it a lot smoother and easier process.
4. Why did you choose to build a two-storey home?
Due to being FIFO, I wanted something that was lower maintenance without sacrificing my internal living space. Building up was really convenient because I have the added space of having a three by two without a whole lot of land to look after.
5. Did you decide on your block first then your design or vice versa?
First I found the area I wanted to live in and I chose Piara Waters because it was the right place for me then I found what designs were available due to frontage restrictions and then I found the Newport design. Once I had my heart set on this design it was just a case of finding the right land in Piara Waters to match that.
6. Anything else you want to mention about the homebuilding process?
Going with Brownstones was a really positive move for me, they have the packages already planned out with an interior designer to sort out all of the interior design details. I just needed to pick one of four set design styles and they did everything for me, this made it really easy for me being FIFO as I didn’t need to worry about doing pre-start.
